Golf Blowout for Shriners Children's Texas
OUR HISTORY
Back in 1985, the founder of Wild Well Control, Joe Bowden, Sr., landed in a Shriners Hospital after suffering some burns in the oil field. While at the hospital recovering, he ventured out into the halls and came across some of the other burn victims, children whose injuries were much more severe than his. Meeting these tiny survivors made him think about the men he had worked alongside over the years in the oil field fighting wild wells, risking their lives each time.
Touched by the children and their plight, Bowden returned periodically to the Shriners Children's Texas hospital in Galveston to walk the halls after his release, handing out little teddy bears that wore the iconic Wild Well yellow coveralls and hardhats, distributing coloring books, and giving out other playthings that would help boost the children’s spirits. After several years, he turned his love of golf into a vehicle for donations to Shriners and created the Wild Well golf tournament.
Through the generous support of oil and gas professionals and the local community, the tournament has raised more than $2 million for Shriners Children's Texas. We continue to grow each year because of amazing sponsors, customers, and volunteers.
